The Masthead
The Great Wall of China is probably one of the most photographed landmarks on earth. The web has hundreds of thousands of photographs of the Great Wall. That is why it became difficult for the Bricks Team to choose which photograph would best represent our vision and mission. We wanted a photograph of the Great Wall that does not spell out “touristy” but invokes its magnificence and to some point its sacredness as one of man’s glorious feats in architecture. We eventually found it through the work of Gandalf Bartholomäus. The bricks masthead (the picture that you see on top of the site) is a work entitled “Streitende Reiche”. It shows the Great Wall of China, in a somber and quiet mood yet never losing its greatness. Gandalf is a young artist who is based both in Germany and Japan. You can view his works in his personal website, here and on his filckr site here.
