In Memory of John Hirsch

Eternal rest Grant unto him O Lord
And let perpetual light shine upon him

May he rest in peace,

On November 12, 2012, John Hirsch Jr., a United Airlines pilot from Jacksonville, FL, USA, experienced a medical emergency while he was between flights in Beijing, China. John’s wife, daughter and sister immediately flew to Beijing to be by his side. Doctors soon reported that John experienced a massive stroke, from which he would not recover.

The nurse in the hospital was able to find a Catholic Vincentian priest, Father Joseph Loftus, he immediately came to the hospital and visited several times with John and his family. How amazed and thankful we were to meet a Catholic priest in the middle of China! His presence brought heartfelt comfort, care, and solace to our family during this agonizing event thousands of miles from home. Fr. Loftus read God’s word, prayed, and administered the sacraments to John and his family. We are forever grateful for the love and care we received through Fr. Loftus.

The family was so thankful for all Father Loftus provided, we would like to support his mission of spreading Christianity through China. This cause would be very important to John, and we would appreciate all of the help we can provide to Father Loftus.
