The Beijing Marathon has been a regular feature on the international running calendar since 1981. This year it is on the Bricks Calendar also. The Marathon is on October 19th and begins from Tiananmen Square and ends up at the Olympic Stadium. Two would-be athletes have signed up so far. Aidan Duffy hopes to complete the full marathon and, less ambitiously, Joseph Loftus is attempting the half Marathon. Our intrepid sportsmen only expectation is to complete the course inside the time limit of of 2½ and 5 hours respectively. It may not be the Olympic Marathon, but as an Olympic Year Marathon in Beijing it has an historic character.
Our runners’ purpose is ultimately, not athletic but charitable. Between them they will be running 36 miles to raise money for 60 much needed beds for Xing Tai Home for the Elderly (Click here for more details). If you would like to support the cause, you could run with Aidan and Joseph, sponsor a bed, or make a donation (of whatever amount) online from the webpage or by wire transfer to one of the accounts listed here.
36 for 60 involves weeks of training to be ready for our two runners. You can make the effort worthwhile by helping to ensure that 60 seniors have suitable beds by the time they cross the finish lines on October 19th. Donate now and help build a Great Wall of China, in this case step by step.
